The past few Council meetings have been the highest attended meetings of the term. No, the Water Bylaw was not being discussed this time. Concerned citizens about the changes to the Truck Route came to address Council in the Public Commentary portion of the meeting. The main concern raised is that many businesses receive or move their products by trucks and they need to be able to get around. Truckers are
permitted to leave the Truck Route for business purposes or vehicle servicing, including washing. However, once the truckers business is completed, they should return to the nearest Truck Route. The main aim of the changes to the Truck Route is to reduce the traffic on 50th and 50th.
Council also approved a Risk Management Policy. This policy helps the City of Leduc keep insurance premiums low. Prior to getting on Council, I worked in the insurance industry. I understand how everything can be viewed as a risk. Council was assured that this policy will look at areas where the City is exposed to unnecessary risk. We will not be getting too carried away with shutting down everything that posses the slightest risk.
The yearly Citizen Satisfaction Survey was presented to Council. The survey highlighted what citizens value in our community and how they feel the City is doing with services. The survey revealed many interesting findings and I will post more when I receive the report in full, but I was pleased to findout that 97% of citizens find the City of Leduc is doing "good" to "excellent" in over all satisfaction.
The City of Leduc will be participating in Earth Hour Saturday the 27th at 8:30pm. All non essential lights will be turned off. City Halls across the world will go dark for 1 hour to show support for global solutions. It was great to bring this motion forward and have it passes unanimously by council and it was even better to have Alderman Lazowski make the motion.
As March 22nd, the day of our meeting, was World Water Day, it was great to have Council pass a motion to task administration to develop a Water Conservation Plan. Canadian are amongst the top 2 in the world for largest water users per capita. It is great that the City of Leduc will be working on changing this.
